ABOUT THE COURSE:

The proposed course deals with the contemporary issues of International Economics. It starts with basic theories to provide the foundations to understand the complex global trade scenario. Eventually the course then unfolds to discuss the future of trade amidst increasing uncertainty owing to Covid-19, BREXIT, rising geopolitical tensions, the threat of climate change, use of AI and digitalization, and global value chains. The mode of assessment will be computer based MCQ type exams and uploading of assignments. The course is expected to be highly interactive as the topics include recent events like US-China trade war, trade sanctions in the context of Russia-Ukraine war.

Instructor bio

Prof. Anwesha Aditya

IIT Kharagpur

Prof. Anwesha Aditya is Assistant Professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur. Her research focuses on International Economics and Development Economics, particularly the effects of globalization on developing economies. She received her PhD from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. She was honoured with the International Economic Research Annual (IERA) Award in 2013 by the Export-Import Bank of India for the best doctoral dissertation in International Economics by an Indian researcher. Dr. Aditya’s research addresses a wide range of contemporary economic issues, including digitalization and trade, global value chains, gender aspects of trade liberalization, financial inclusion, and trade and environment. She has led several research and consultancy projects funded by leading national and international agencies. She has guided numerous postgraduate and doctoral scholars, many of whom have received accolades for their research. She has actively participated in national and international conferences to present her work and engage in scholarly exchange. She has also played a key role in designing interdisciplinary and applied courses that address evolving global economic challenges. Her teaching experience spans core and specialized subjects such as Microeconomics, International Trade, Labour Economics, and Petroleum Economics and Management. Additionally, she has contributed to NPTEL’s online education initiatives. Dr. Aditya’s work is widely published in reputed international journals. Further, she carries out administrative responsibility by being the course coordinator of BS-MS and PhD Economics at IIT Kharagpur. She has represented IIT Kharagpur at the Women Leading IITs Workshop organized by IIT Madras.

Course certificate

The course is free to enroll and learn from. But if you want a certificate, you have to register and write the proctored exam conducted by us in person at any of the designated exam centres.
The exam is optional for a fee of Rs 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only).
Date and Time of Exams: April 19, 2026 Morning session 9am to 12 noon; Afternoon Session 2pm to 5pm.

The online registration form has to be filled and the certification exam fee needs to be paid. More details will be made available when the exam registration form is published. If there are any changes, it will be mentioned then.

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE

Average assignment score = 25% of average of best 6 assignments out of the total 8 assignments given in the course.
Exam score = 75% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100

Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score

Please note that assignments encompass all types (including quizzes, programming tasks, and essay submissions) available in the specific week.

YOU WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR A CERTIFICATE ONLY IF AVERAGE ASSIGNMENT SCORE >=10/25 AND EXAM SCORE >= 30/75. If one of the 2 criteria is not met, you will not get the certificate even if the Final score >= 40/100.

Certificate will have your name, photograph and the score in the final exam with the breakup.It will have the logos of NPTEL and IIT Kharagpur .It will be e-verifiable at nptel.ac.in/noc.

Only the e-certificate will be made available. Hard copies will not be dispatched.
