ABOUT THE COURSE:

The course covers a wide range of topics required to equip undergraduate and postgraduate students of Education discipline, Humanities and Social Science as well as prospective and current teachers to ensure inclusion and equitable participation of all children in the regular schooling process, thereby ensuring their retention and enabling them to achieve defined learning outcomes. The course will provide knowledge; develop awareness, insights and attitude and skills to these individuals towards the issues, challenges and concerns of inclusive education especially for responding the needs of diverse learners. This course may be helpful to the prospective and current teachers as well as teacher educators for playing their crucial role in developing inclusive education by advocating for inclusive policies and practices, creating personalized learning plans for diverse learners, providing accessible materials and resources, fostering a positive and inclusive classroom culture, supporting the emotional and social needs of all learners etc. Additionally, this course enhances career prospects for individuals wish to work in the field of inclusive education by developing their insights regarding the job opportunities in this field.

Instructor bio

Prof. Umakant Prasad

Visva-Bharati
Dr. Umakant Prasad is currently working as the Vice Principal of Vinaya Bhavana and Assistant Professor in the Department of Education, Vinaya Bhavana, Visva-Bharati since 2014. Before Visva-Bharati he worked as Assistant Professor of Education at Veer Kunwar Singh University, Bihar and Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, Uttar Pradesh.

Dr. Prasad obtained his B.Ed. (Special Education), M.Ed. (Special Education) and Ph.D. in Education emphasizing on students with disabilities from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. He is registered as Rehabilitation Professional as Special Educator (Visual Impairment) by Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) under CRR No. A14613.

His core area of research interests lie in addressing issues, challenges and concerns of inclusive education and special needs, equity and social justice, child rights, transgender rights and socio-emotional well being in school education and higher education. He published a number of research papers in prestigious journals and book chapters. He also guides Ph.D. scholars. He supervised 55 M.Ed. and MA (Education) dissertations and most of them mainly focused on students with disabilities and inclusive education. He developed the curriculum for Inclusive Education in M.Ed., M.A. (Education) and B.Ed. program for Visva-Bharati.

Additionally, he has been associated with National Testing Agency (NTA), Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET), CBSE and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) as Subject Matter Expert (SME). He has been coordinator of M.Ed. program for academic session 2020-21, 2021-22 and M.A. (Education) for academic session 2022-23 onwards at Department of Education, Vinaya Bhavana, Visva-Bharati. He also works as Nodal Officer for smooth functioning of NEP SAARTHI portal of MoE (Govt of India) under NEP 2020 at Visva-Bharati. He is also an active member of several academic bodies.

Course certificate

The course is free to enroll and learn from. But if you want a certificate, you have to register and write the proctored exam conducted by us in person at any of the designated exam centres.
The exam is optional for a fee of Rs 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only).
Date and Time of Exams: November 01, 2025 Morning session 9am to 12 noon; Afternoon Session 2pm to 5pm.

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE

Average assignment score = 25% of average of best 8 assignments out of the total 12 assignments given in the course.
Exam score = 75% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100

Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score

Please note that assignments encompass all types (including quizzes, programming tasks, and essay submissions) available in the specific week.

YOU WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR A CERTIFICATE ONLY IF AVERAGE ASSIGNMENT SCORE >=10/25 AND EXAM SCORE >= 30/75. If one of the 2 criteria is not met, you will not get the certificate even if the Final score >= 40/100.

Certificate will have your name, photograph and the score in the final exam with the breakup.It will have the logos of NPTEL and IIT Kharagpur. It will be e-verifiable at nptel.ac.in/noc.

Only the e-certificate will be made available. Hard copies will not be dispatched.
