ABOUT THE COURSE : The overarching reform in the Electricity sector culminated into the enactment of a new law in the year 2003. After repealing related laws, the Electricity Act, 2003 ushered a new era of reform in the sector by opening up the market for the private players and creating an autonomous regulatory body which has been entrusted with the responsibility to promote the sector and bring in efficiency by furthering the interest of the consumer. It has also established a specialized tribunal to adjudicate the disputes related to the electricity sector. The law introduced multi-buyer model in place of single-buyer model to increase competitiveness amongst the stakeholders. Beside the discussion on the above mentioned areas, the course will highlight the issues of renewables and related provisions in the law.

Prof. Uday Shankar is Associate Professor at Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law, IIT Kharagpur. He has been teaching and researching in law for more than 20 years.He has served as guest professor under Magdalene Schoch Fellowship awarded by the Faculty of Law, University of Hamburg in the year 2016 and recipient of the prestigious fellowship from the Max-Planck Institute of Comparative Public Law and International Law, Heidelberg in the year 2008. He is a Member of International Association of Constitutional Law. He is a Life Member of Indian Law Institute, Delhi. More than 50 of his academic writings are published in journals and books. He has presented papers and delivered invited talks in more than 70 conferences in India and abroad. Hedelivers lecture asa resource person in Faculty Development Programme/Conferences in the area of Constitutional Law/Research Methodology/Teaching Pedagogy. Hiscourseon Introduction to Law on Electricity is offered under the scheme of National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), project funded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. He has organized GIAN Course on Energy Law and Policy and Short Term Courses on Labour Law and Make in India/Skill India. He sits on the editorial boards or advisory boards of journals published by the National Law Universities/Law Colleges in India.

Course certificate

The course is free to enroll and learn from. But if you want a certificate, you have to register and write the proctored exam conducted by us in person at any of the designated exam centres.
The exam is optional for a fee of Rs 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only).
Date and Time of Exams: 22 September 2024 Morning session 9am to 12 noon; Afternoon Session 2pm to 5pm.

The online registration form has to be filled and the certification exam fee needs to be paid. More details will be made available when the exam registration form is published. If there are any changes, it will be mentioned then.

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE

Average assignment score = 25% of average of best 6 assignments out of the total 8 assignments given in the course.
Exam score = 75% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100

Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score

YOU WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR A CERTIFICATE ONLY IF AVERAGE ASSIGNMENT SCORE >=10/25 AND EXAM SCORE >= 30/75. If one of the 2 criteria is not met, you will not get the certificate even if the Final score >= 40/100.

Certificate will have your name, photograph and the score in the final exam with the breakup.It will have the logos of NPTEL and IIT Kharagpur .It will be e-verifiable at nptel.ac.in/noc.

Only the e-certificate will be made available. Hard copies will not be dispatched.
