ABOUT THE COURSE : Sports Nutrition is a branch of Nutritional Science that deals with the interaction of human nutrition with exercise performance. Through this course, we aim to connect physical activity, nutrition and health by translating the nutritional goals of an athlete into dietary strategies. By completing the course, you’d have a basic understanding of how nutrients can be manipulated to boost performance and how to incorporate traditional and Indian cuisine into sports nutrition.

Course objective
  • To help participants understand the basics of nutrition for improving sports and exercise capacity.
  • To gain scientific considerations for manipulating macros - carbohydrates, proteins, fats to peak performance
  • To learn about the role of micronutrients to prevent illness and to enhance immunity to support athletic abilities
  • To learn about the regulation of fluids and electrolytes to suit the type of training, and competition.
  • To understand evidence-based food choices for recovery from exercise and to prevent injuries in athletes
  • To understand safe and scientific supplement protocol
  • To apply concepts for Indian athletes and cuisine, understanding food safety and hygiene

Prof. Geetha Ghaliyavar

IIT Madras
Prof. Geetha Ghaliyavar is a sports nutritionist, a high-performance dietitian with a PG diploma-International Olympic Committee, UK, registered dietitian, diabetes educator, IBS expert, with over 20 years of experience in Bangalore, India. She is passionate about dietary practices to peak athletic performance.

Prof. Geetha Ghaliyavar is a Member, Board of studies, Reva university, Marwadi University Guest lecturer and faculty for colleges, Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Universities Lecturer for sports nutrition certification for Auro University – Gujarat and Mount Carmel College, Bangalore.

Represented India at WE sports nutrition conference roundtable discussion on emerging trends in sports nutrition, December 2020, conducted by the legendary Professor Asker Jeukendrup, director IOC - sports nutrition. Adviser to FSSAI (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India), Delhi, Working Group on use of supplements for sportspersons. University first rank holder, several awards, gold medals for being a topper in M.Sc., B.Sc.

Currently mentors elite Indian athletes at state, national, and international levels - Asian championship, Commonwealth, Olympics, Paralympics of varied sports, including cricketers of the cricket excellence program – Go sports foundation by offering holistic sports nutrition plans and counseling based on the latest research. From being selected to work with IPL teams, she works with eminent sports academies to educate athletes, coaches, and parents.

Course certificate

The course is free to enroll and learn from. But if you want a certificate, you have to register and write the proctored exam conducted by us in person at any of the designated exam centres.
The exam is optional for a fee of Rs 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only).
Date and Time of Exams: 28 April 2024 Morning session 9am to 12 noon; Afternoon Session 2pm to 5pm.
Registration url: Announcements will be made when the registration form is open for registrations.
The online registration form has to be filled and the certification exam fee needs to be paid. More details will be made available when the exam registration form is published. If there are any changes, it will be mentioned then.
Please check the form for more details on the cities where the exams will be held, the conditions you agree to when you fill the form etc.

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE

Average assignment score = 25% of average of best 6 assignments out of the total 8 assignments given in the course.
Exam score = 75% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100

Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score

YOU WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR A CERTIFICATE ONLY IF AVERAGE ASSIGNMENT SCORE >=10/25 AND EXAM SCORE >= 30/75. If one of the 2 criteria is not met, you will not get the certificate even if the Final score >= 40/100.

Certificate will have your name, photograph and the score in the final exam with the breakup.It will have the logos of NPTEL and IIT Madras. It will be e-verifiable at nptel.ac.in/noc.

Only the e-certificate will be made available. Hard copies will not be dispatched.
