ABOUT THE COURSE:
In the proposed NPTEL course on EXPERIMENTAL ROBOTICS, a brief introduction will be given to Robotics, and it will be followed by five experiments, whose details are given below.
Experiment 1: Teaching of Serial Manipulator
Experiment 2: Control of Tracked Mobile Manipulator
Experiment 3: Path and Gait Planning of Six-legged Robot
Experiment4: Navigation of Drone
Experiment 5: Path and Gait Planning of Humanoid Robot For each of the above Experiments, Laboratory Manual will be provided to the participants.

INTENDED AUDIENCE: UG and PG (including PhD) students of various Institutes and Universities

Prof. Dilip Kumar Pratihar

IIT Kharagpur
Prof. Dilip Kumar Pratihar received his Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, in 2000. He received University Gold Medal, A.M. Das Memorial Medal, Institution of Engineers’ (I) Medal, INSA Teachers’ Award 2020, New Code Of Education 2021 Award, Distinguished Alumnus Award 2021 from National Institute of Technology Durgapur, Institute Chair Professor Award 2022 from IIT Kharagpur, Technologist of the Year Award 2022 from IEEE India Council, and others. He was included among the World’s Top 2% Scientists in the areas of Image Analysis and Artificial Intelligence in a survey carried out by Stanford University, USA, in 2020, 2021, 2022. He was declared Outstanding Researcher 2021, 2022 in www.research.com. He completed his post-doctoral studies in Japan, and then, in Germany under the Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) Fellowship Programme. He received the Shastri Fellowship (Indo-Canadian Fellowship) to work on humanoid robots. Under his Mentorship, a group of four students has received Chanakya Fellowship recently by the TIH-IoT (coordinated by IIT Bombay), sponsored by the DST, Government of India. He is working now as a Professor (HAG scale) of IIT Kharagpur. He has made significant contributions on the fundamentals and applications of Artificial Intelligence in Industrial Automation, Robotics, Health Care, Education Technology, and others. He has published more than 180 research papers in peer reviewed international journals and more than 100 papers in conferences and national journals. He has contributed 25 chapters in edited international books. A few of his fundamental contributions published in IEEE, ASME, Elsevier, Springer journals are being highly cited by researchers in the field. His h-index values are found to be as follows: 43 (Google Scholar), 33 (Scopus), 29 (Web of Science). He has written the textbooks on “Soft Computing”, “Fundamentals of Robotics”, co-authored another textbook on “Analytical Engineering Mechanics”, edited a book on “Intelligent Autonomous Systems”, co-authored four reference books on “Modeling and Analysis of Six-legged Robots”, “Modeling and Simulations of Robotic Systems Using Soft Computing”, “Modeling and Analysis of Laser Metal Forming Processes by Finite Element and Soft Computing Methods” and “Multi-body dynamic modeling of multi-legged robots”. His textbook on “Soft Computing” has been translated into Chinese language also. He has developed three on-line NPTEL courses, such as “Traditional and Non-Traditional Optimization Tools”, “Robotics” and “Fuzzy Logic and Neural Networks”. He has guided 25 PhDs, and 12 more Ph.D. students are working now under his guidance. He has filed four patents and received copyright for an intelligent optimization tool named Bonobo Optimizer. He has completed a number of sponsored projects funded by the DST, DAE, DBT, MHRD of Govt. of India, and four consultancy projects of the industries. He is in editorial board of a few International Journals. He is an Associate Editor of two International Journals. He has been elected as a Fellow of Institution of Engineers (I), MASME, MAAAI and SMIEEE.

Course certificate

The course is free to enroll and learn from. But if you want a certificate, you have to register and write the proctored exam conducted by us in person at any of the designated exam centres.
The exam is optional for a fee of Rs 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only).
Date and Time of Exams: 27 April 2024 Morning session 9am to 12 noon; Afternoon Session 2pm to 5pm.

The online registration form has to be filled and the certification exam fee needs to be paid. More details will be made available when the exam registration form is published. If there are any changes, it will be mentioned then.

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE

Average assignment score = 25% of average of best 3 assignments out of the total 4 assignments given in the course.
Exam score = 75% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100

Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score

YOU WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR A CERTIFICATE ONLY IF AVERAGE ASSIGNMENT SCORE >=10/25 AND EXAM SCORE >= 30/75. If one of the 2 criteria is not met, you will not get the certificate even if the Final score >= 40/100.

Certificate will have your name, photograph and the score in the final exam with the breakup.It will have the logos of NPTEL and IIT Kharagpur .It will be e-verifiable at nptel.ac.in/noc.

Only the e-certificate will be made available. Hard copies will not be dispatched.
