ABOUT THE COURSE:
Industrial wastewater treatment is a very unique course and it deals with the advanced processes for treatment of Industrial Wastewater. These processes are not covered during the conventional wastewater treatment courses. The course encompasses processes like removal of heavy metals, adsorption, ion exchange, membrane process, and advanced oxidation processes. The course covers detailed description on the wastewater treatment of industries like Distillery, Dairy, Tannery, Pulp and Paper, Textile and Dye, Fertilizer, Refinery, Pharmaceutical, Iron & Steel (Coke Ovens) and Mine Wastewater including Acid Mine Drainage (Coal Washeries).

INTENDED AUDIENCE: B.Tech./M.Tech/PhD -Civil, Environmental Engineering students

PREREQUISITES: Environmental Chemistry

Prof. Alok Sinha

Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, India
Prof. Alok Sinha is currently serving as Professor in the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering and Dean (Infrastructure) at Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, India. Prof. Sinha did his PhD from IIT Kanpur in Environmental Engineering and taught in colleges like SRMSCET Bareilly, HBTI Kanpur and IIT(ISM) Dhanbad. He has carried research in development of ZVI technology for in-situ remediation of contaminated groundwater with pollutants like Halogenated Organic Compounds, Pesticides, and Chromium etc. He has also been granted a patent on “Novel system for regenerating and reusing nZVI/ZVI particles in wastewater treatment”. He has more than 60 publications in peer reviewed journal and is Guest Editor for “Frontiers in Environmental Science”. He has been awarded Best Paper Award by BITS Pilani. He has received Certificate of Excellence for Knimbus “Young Innovator Award” for the year 2013-14. He is a Fellow Member of The Institution of Engineers (India). He has guided 10 PhD thesis and more than 30 M.Tech thesis and has completed many R&D and Consultancy proposals. Currently he is working in the area of water and wastewater treatment of industrial origin with special emphasis on Emerging Contaminants using various techniques like nano-technology, AOPs, electrochemical and combination of biological and physic-chemical methods


Prof. S K Gupta

Prof. S K Gupta is graduate in Civil Engineering from APS University, Rewa in 1994 obtained M.Tech in Environmental Engineering from Rani Durgawati, Vishwavidyalay, Jabalpur in 1996. He received doctorate Environmental Science & Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in the year 2004. After the post-graduation he has worked in National Environmental Engineering Institute (NEERI), Nagpur for about one and half year and executed one Solid Waste Management of Municipal Corporation of India. After doctorate, Prof. Gupta worked in Royal Bhutan Institute of Technology, (RBIT), Phuensholing, Bhutan during 2004-05 and later joined Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad in the year 2005. Prof. Gupta is now working as Professor in the Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad. His research specialization includes water and wastewater engineering with especial emphasis on the treatment of industrial wastewater using advanced bioreactors. His expertise includes drinking water quality, disinfection by-products management, municipal solid waste management, environmental audit and Environmental Impact Assessment. He has guided more than 30 M.Tech. and 15 Ph.Ds. thesis and published more than 85 research papers in peer reviewed International Journals. He has also published two books and 08 book chapters. Prof. Gupta has completed more than 100 consultancy projects, 8 GOI sponsored R & D projects and organized number of training program/conference/workshops in the field of water and wastewater management. He has also been awarded young Scientist award by American Academy of Science. His goal is to provide technology driven solutions to the industries and work for the benefit of community and society.

Course certificate

The course is free to enroll and learn from. But if you want a certificate, you have to register and write the proctored exam conducted by us in person at any of the designated exam centres.
The exam is optional for a fee of Rs 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only).
Date and Time of Exams: 21 April 2024 Morning session 9am to 12 noon; Afternoon Session 2pm to 5pm.

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE

Average assignment score = 25% of average of best 8 assignments out of the total 12 assignments given in the course.
Exam score = 75% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100

Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score

YOU WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR A CERTIFICATE ONLY IF AVERAGE ASSIGNMENT SCORE >=10/25 AND EXAM SCORE >= 30/75. If one of the 2 criteria is not met, you will not get the certificate even if the Final score >= 40/100.

Certificate will have your name, photograph and the score in the final exam with the breakup.It will have the logos of NPTEL and IIT Kharagpur .It will be e-verifiable at nptel.ac.in/noc.

Only the e-certificate will be made available. Hard copies will not be dispatched.
