Human Physiology

Learners enrolled: 6212   |  Exam registration: 1989
ABOUT THE COURSE:
Physiology deals with the integration of the different dynamic system that keep the life ticking. Organization of the various system, and the way they interact is critical to our understanding of how the entire body works, responds to changing internal and external conditions, and fulfils a function. Central neural regulation and hormonal controls add yet another layer of complexity. The range of processes can also be viewed as means directed at maintaining homeostasis. These series of lectures, profusely supported by illustrations, are aimed at explaining the intricacies in simple language in easy to digest format. We will try to elucidate, in a stepwise manner, the spectrum of concepts encompassing molecules, cells, organ systems to behavior. The goal is not only to impart the education in physiology but enable the student to appreciate the underlying logic that drives biology. While the use of biological and technical nomenclature is inevitable, we try to demystify the terms and provide rationale underlying each usage and promote learning. Once the fundamental principles are absorbed, the student will be introduced to the etiology of some of the common diseases, available treatment options and the accompanying logic. We hope that the students will appreciate the course in physiology since it offers something unique – insights into one own biology.
