ABOUT THE COURSE:
This course will cover four different smart materials namely piezoelectric materials, shape memory alloys, electro and magneto rheological fluids. Materials properties of these materials and development of their constitutive relations will be discussed. Mechanics of fibre reinforced composite laminates will be introduced. Next, analysis of metallic as well as fibre composite structures fitted with these materials will covered. Analysis will involve both close form and approximate solutions of the respective governing equations. Development of codes for such analysis will also be discussed.

INTENDED AUDIENCE: BE/ME/PhD student in Aerospace Egineering /Mechanical Engineering/ Civil Engineering/ Ocean Engineering and Naval Architecture and industry professionals from similar fields

PREREQUISITES: Structural Analysis Dynamics and Vibration

Instructor bio

Prof. Mohammed Rabius Sunny

IIT Kharagpur
prof.Mohammed Rabius Sunny in an Assistant Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. He was also associated with the Department of Ocean Engineering and Naval Architecture till June, 2021. He did his doctoral and postdoctoral research in the Department of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering, Virginia Tech, USA in the areas of structural health monitoring, structural optimization and energy harvesting. His present research interest lies in structural health monitoring employing smart sensors and actuators, aeroelasticity and metamaterials. He has developed various guided wave and vibration based schemes for structural health monitoring. He has closely worked with industries for such problems. Presently he is working with DRDO for one of his projects aimed at aero-thermo-elastic simulation of hypersonic vehicles. Courses taught by him so far include Smart Structures, Finite Element Method, Composite Structures, Mechanics, Computer Aided Ocean Structural Analysis, Engineering Drawing and Computer Graphics.

Course certificate

The course is free to enroll and learn from. But if you want a certificate, you have to register and write the proctored exam conducted by us in person at any of the designated exam centres.
The exam is optional for a fee of Rs 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only).
Date and Time of Exams: 
26 October 2024 Morning session 9am to 12 noon; Afternoon Session 2pm to 5pm.

The online registration form has to be filled and the certification exam fee needs to be paid. More details will be made available when the exam registration form is published. If there are any changes, it will be mentioned then.

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE

Average assignment score = 25% of average of best 8 assignments out of the total 12 assignments given in the course.
Exam score = 75% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100

Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score

YOU WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR A CERTIFICATE ONLY IF AVERAGE ASSIGNMENT SCORE >=10/25 AND EXAM SCORE >= 30/75. If one of the 2 criteria is not met, you will not get the certificate even if the Final score >= 40/100.

Certificate will have your name, photograph and the score in the final exam with the breakup.It will have the logos of NPTEL and IIT Kharagpur .It will be e-verifiable at nptel.ac.in/noc.

Only the e-certificate will be made available. Hard copies will not be dispatched.
