ABOUT THE COURSE:
The world is passing through revolutionary shift in the field of energy generation and utilization as sustainability problems related to pollution and climate change force a shift from traditional fossil fuel based energy to renewable and carbon neutral sources of energy. This course attempts to provide a synoptic overview of the rapidly developing ecosystem of sustainable energy technologies that are being developed and deployed to exploit the various carbon neutral energy resources, to improve the efficiency and sustainability of current energy systems and to develop a more flexible energy grid and energy storage system for the future. India is expected to remain as one of the largest producers and consumers of energy in this coming decades and challenges and opportunities for the Indian energy ecosystem will also be highlighted. While the course will not delve deep into any one technology, the course will provide a broad description of each of the technologies and their associated basic theoretical and analytical underpinnings.

INTENDED AUDIENCE: UG and PG students as well as working professionals in Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, Energy and Environmental Engineering wishing to gain a broad expertise on sustainability issues in Energy Technology.

Instructor bio

Prof. Sayak Banerjee

IIT Hyderabad
Prof. Sayak Banerjee is an Assistant Professor at the Mechanical and Aerospace Department at the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad and is also an Adjunct Professor at the Climate Change Department at IIT Hyderabad. He had completed his M Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kanpur and his PhD and Post-Doctoral research on bio-aviation fuel combustion kinetics from the Stanford University, USA. His research specialization is in the field chemical kinetics experimentation and modelling associated with the gasification, pyrolysis and combustion of novel carbon neutral fuels (biomass, hydrogen, biodiesel, biojet fuels etc.). He has taught the Sustainable Energy Technology Course at IIT Hyderabad as an M. Tech/ B.Tech elective for Mechanical and Climate Change Departments for over 3 years

Course certificate

The course is free to enroll and learn from. But if you want a certificate, you have to register and write the proctored exam conducted by us in person at any of the designated exam centres.
The exam is optional for a fee of Rs 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only).
Date and Time of Exams: 29 October 2023 Morning session 9am to 12 noon; Afternoon Session 2pm to 5pm.

The online registration form has to be filled and the certification exam fee needs to be paid. More details will be made available when the exam registration form is published. If there are any changes, it will be mentioned then.

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE

Average assignment score = 25% of average of best 8 assignments out of the total 12 assignments given in the course.
Exam score = 75% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100

Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score

YOU WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR A CERTIFICATE ONLY IF AVERAGE ASSIGNMENT SCORE >=10/25 AND EXAM SCORE >= 30/75. If one of the 2 criteria is not met, you will not get the certificate even if the Final score >= 40/100.

Certificate will have your name, photograph and the score in the final exam with the breakup.It will have the logos of NPTEL and IIT Hyderabad .It will be e-verifiable at nptel.ac.in/noc.

Only the e-certificate will be made available. Hard copies will not be dispatched.
