Lean Construction Management is a radical shift from traditional construction management. It is an adaptation of Lean Manufacturing principles to the construction realm. Lean approach seeks to improve project delivery by minimizing waste and maximizing Value to the customer. This course has been designed to impart the key concepts, tools, and practices to Civil Engineering Senior Level under-graduates, post-graduate students, and Faculty as well as practicing engineers, architects, and managers/ consultants.

INTENDED AUDIENCE: Academic - UG/ PG/ Research Scholars/ Faculty members ; Industry - All levels of engineers, architects, managers/ consultants who are responsible for construction project delivery

Instructor bio

Prof. Koshy Varghese

IIT Madras
Prof. Koshy Varghese is a Professor with the Building Technology & Construction Management Division of Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM). Dr. Varghese earned his Doctoral Degree at the University of Texas at Austin in 1992 and worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow for a year after which he joined IIT Madras. Dr. Varghese is a pioneer in construction management education and research in India and He has received numerous academic honors, and he is on the editorial-board of several international journals. He is also a Member of the Board of Directors of ILCE (Institute for Lean Construction Excellence).


Prof. N Raghavan

Prof. N. Raghavan is Professor of Practice in Building Technology & Construction Management Division, Department of Civil Engineering., IIT Madras (IITM). He has a B.Tech from IITM and M.Tech from IITB. Also, Member of the Board-of Directors of ILCE (Institute for Lean Construction Excellence). Earlier he retired from Larsen & Toubro Construction as Head- Hydel & Nuclear Sector. He was also Chief Executive/ Director- L&T- Ramboll Consulting Engrs Ltd; He has been a Pioneer in India for spreading Lean concepts and has organised several Lean conferences and programmes.

Dr. Marimuthu K is a Technical Secretary with the Institute for Lean Construction Excellence (ILCE - https://www.ilce.in/). He earned his Joint Doctoral Degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras at Chennai and Swinburne University of Technology at Melbourne in 2019 and worked as Project Officer at the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Madras after which he joined ILCE in Dec 2021. He has interests in Construction Management related topics including Lean Project Delivery and received academic awards, and he actively reviews the articles from ECAM (Emerald), IJCM (T&F) and JME (ASCE) journals.

Course certificate

The course is free to enroll and learn from. But if you want a certificate, you have to register and write the proctored exam conducted by us in person at any of the designated exam centers.
The exam is optional for a fee of Rs 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only).
Date and Time of Exams: EAXM DATE : 27 March 2022  Morning session 9am to 12 noon; Afternoon Session 2pm to 5pm.
Registration url: Announcements will be made when the registration form is open for registrations.
The online registration form has to be filled and the certification exam fee needs to be paid. More details will be made available when the exam registration form is published. If there are any changes, it will be mentioned then.
Please check the form for more details on the cities where the exams will be held, the conditions you agree to when you fill the form etc.

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE

Average assignment score = 25% of average of best 3 assignments out of the total 4 assignments given in the course.
Exam score = 75% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100

Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score

YOU WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR A CERTIFICATE ONLY IF AVERAGE ASSIGNMENT SCORE >=10/25 AND EXAM SCORE >= 30/75. If one of the 2 criteria is not met, you will not get the certificate even if the Final score >= 40/100.

Certificate will have your name, photograph and the score in the final exam with the breakup. It will have the logos of NPTEL, IIT Madras, and ILCE. It will be e-verifiable at nptel.ac.in/noc.

Only the e-certificate will be made available. Hard copies will not be dispatched.
