Lighter than Air Systems

By Prof. Rajkumar S. Pant   |   IIT Bombay
Learners enrolled: 1113
This course is designed to provide students an overview of Lighter-than-Air (LTA) systems, a subject of Aerospace Engineering that was once at the forefront of technological developments, but which got pushed into oblivion in late 1930s. The subject was revived in mid 1980s due to renewed interest in such systems for long endurance applications with low fuel consumption. The course will be conducted using the in-class recordings of 20 lectures of this course (by CDEEP) that were delivered by the instructor at IIT Bombay in Autumn Semester of 2015. There will be a monthly interaction video session with students, in which their doubts will be cleared. The students can also approach the instructor via e-mail, or on phone at some pre-specified time window.

TEACHING ASSISTANT
     Nouman Uddin

Nouman Uddin completed B.Tech in Aeronautical Engineering from Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow in 2020, and was consistently in the top student of his class during the four years of his B.Tech. He did a one month summer training at ADRDE, DRDO in Agra, followed by a two-month project work at IIT Bombay. Later, he was selected as a Research Intern under "IRCC Research Internship Award 2019-20" at IIT Bombay, where he worked on Design of a Test Rig for a Phase Change based Lighter-than-Air System. He has cleared nine NPTEL exams under the domain of Aerospace Engineering. He also has been the Teaching Assistant for the course on Introduction to Aircraft Design in the past semester. He is a coordinator for the Fourth National Aerospace Conceptual Design Competition (aka NACDeC-IV). Recently, he presented two research papers at International Conferences, one of which received the best paper award.
