The National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis (NIRT), Chennai is one of the premier institutes of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Department of Health Research (DHR) of Govt. of India. It is an internationally reputed institution for Tuberculosis (TB) research and a WHO Collaborating Centre for TB Research and Training. The online course for doctors “Manage TB” is an initiative to address this felt need of sensitizing doctors both in public and private sector to the standards of care and the new guidelines and developments in the modern management of TB. The participants will be provided with an overview of the extent of the TB burden globally and nationally, its pathogenesis, diagnostic modalities, treatment regimens, prevention strategies and efforts towards TB elimination. National and International guidelines will be elaborated and new TB drugs, vaccines and diagnostics will be introduced.
We have successfully completed the first course run in August-October this year with more than 2200 participants enrolled. We have had favourable feedback on the course. We are now in advanced planning for the second run of the course starting in February 2019. We hope that this online 8-week “Manage TB” course will benefit doctors treating TB patients and medical students in guiding them to offer care of a higher order to their patients.INTENDED AUDIENCE:
